Attention Ragtime Composers!
The 28th Annual Historic Sutter Creek Ragtime Festival will be hosting a Composition Contest to highlight new rags written for or about Sutter Creek! If you are interested, please download and read the full official contest rules before you begin writing your rag:
The deadline to enter is June 1, 2026. You may enter the contest by filling out the online entry form further down on this page, or by downloading/printing the PDF version of the entry form and returning it by mail to: Historic Sutter Creek Ragtime Festival, PO Box 1658, Sutter Creek, CA 95685
There is a $25 entry fee which must be paid up-front. This may be paid by using the PayPal button on this webpage, or by sending a check to the festival mailing address.
Additionally, a music score for your composition must be submitted, either to the mailing address above or as a PDF to the Festival Director’s email address: [email protected]. You may submit a typeset score or a legible manuscript. The deadline to submit your score is July 1, 2026.
The contest will take place on Saturday, August 8 during the festival at the Sutter Creek Community Center. Celebrated ragtime pianist and composer Paul Orsi will emcee the contest. Judges will be announced at a later date.
The winner of the contest will receive a $250 grand prize, 2nd and 3rd place winners will receive honorable recognition. Additionally, the top three compositions will have an opportunity to be featured in the festival's Saturday evening concert, which will be entirely dedicated to rags written for and about Sutter Creek.
